THE GOTHIC NOVEL
The Gothic Novel was invented by Horace Walpole, and the first one was written in 1764 and it's titled The Castle of Otranto, in 1764.
One of the basic elemens that I didn't include in my list is an ancient prophecy that is connected to the house.
And I also didn't include any supernatural nor otherwise inexplicable events, also I dind't include any women threatened by a poweful, impulsive tyrannical male.
Here's a list with some elements I didn't include:
- Wind
- Doors granting on rusty hinges
- Ruins of buildings
- Rain
- Baying of distant dogs or wolves
- Doors suddenly slamming shut
- Clanking chains
- Thunder an ligthning
